Meet Maureen
Maureen MacLean is the owner and founder of Mississauga Student Residences and has been a prominent face in the community for many years. She is passionate about helping students through their university and college years and promoting positive student experiences.
Maureen is a Business Officer and has been working with students for over 40 years. She worked at McGill University in Montreal and recently retired from the University of Toronto at Mississauga after 30 years of service. She was honored as the recipient of a University of Toronto Merit Award which is presented to staff in recognition of their outstanding contributions made toward the University of Toronto through their hard work and dedication, which has had a direct and positive impact on the University and its community of students, staff and faculty.
Maureen is sensitive to the needs of her students and very generous with her time. She often takes on the concerns of her students as if it were her own. Maureen is serious and practical, dutifully putting business before pleasure – especially the business of caring for her students. She recognizes that it is especially hard for international students who can find it difficult being far from their families so she happily gives of her time and energy to organize social functions throughout the year, including a thanksgiving dinner, a summer BBQ and a pool party or a holiday gathering.
As a family oriented mother of two, Maureen welcomes all of her students into her extended family. In addition to working with students at the University, Maureen’s own children have attended the University of Toronto, Yale University and The Fuqua School of Business at Duke University.

Don't take our word for it, hear it from our students

I want to write a testimonial about Maureen as a landlady but that doesn't do her justice so I am going to tell my story instead. I was an international student at the University of Toronto who was new to Canada. I had moved into one of Maureen's rental units just two weeks after I immigrated to Canada. I was young, naive, nervous and home sick because I had moved from my home country at a really young age. Maureen realized this and took me under her wing in every sense of the phrase. She gave me a place to stay in her home, brought me into her family and provided me with guidance and support when I needed it. I lived with Maureen for just about 5 years and in that time had grown from that naive boy to a graduate and a new home owner. Maureen had a big role to play in that. Maureen is not just a great landlady she is an amazing person who continually does for others. We have kept in touch till today. She is as I say to everyone my 'Canadian Mummy'. - Jimi Olu-Ayeni (Nigeria)

Thanks Moe for all the thoughtful ways you give from the heart. I felt at home, especially when you showed up with muffins and chocolates for us. You are awesome and I would definitely recommend this place to my friends. - Sharon Barceló (Montreal)

I stayed at Maureen’s house for 4 years. When I came to Canada as an international student, it was overwhelming and I just wanted a safe, quiet and nice place to stay. Maureen’s house was the best choice for me. It was always clean since we had a cleaning lady and my four years of university went by fast since the place felt like home. Maureen is a very good person, she helped me a lot since I was new to the country and the culture was different. Maureen always cared for me and made sure I was happy in the house. Thank you Maureen for being an awesome landlady! I enjoyed living at Dover Crescent. - Shena Neermul (Mauritius)
